Unibooks

Unibooks is the leading supplier of textbooks to the South Australian Tertiary sector, and has considerable resources at its disposal.

As an academic, you play a vital role in ensuring that the textbook cycle functions smoothly by: getting your orders in on time promoting your adopted text to your students, thus achieving a high sell-through rate.
Remember, if your sell-through history shows a strong support for sales, we will support you by maintaining high inventory levels.

Unibooks produces lists that are circulated to all Academics we have on record and contain information such as previous text requirements and enrolment numbers for the relevant course. Adoption lists should be completed and returned as soon as possible because most textbooks are imported via sea-freight into Australia to save cost. If we do not place our orders prior to suppliers’ cut-off dates, additional costs are incurred because books then have to be air freighted.

Based on the information provided on the adoption list, our Academic Liaison Officer will place orders with our suppliers. Our system records the sales history of each book and course, and this sets a guideline for ordering quantities. If your course or book has a low sell-through history (number of books sold divided by number of students enrolled), then we order conservatively. Months before the start of semester, we establish how much money can be spent on stocking up for the period, and Academic Liaison Officers are required to adhere to this limit.

Once the semester selling period has ended, we are required to pay our suppliers. Any excess stock we have on hand may only be returned after our accounts have been paid in full. Most suppliers place a limit on the number of books that can be returned, and some suppliers do not accept any returns. This factor is taken into account when ordering books, and we will generally order conservatively from suppliers who will not accept returns from us.
